Conventional organisation wisdom suggests that the commitment and insight required of senior management team members requires permanent, full-time team members. However times have changed. Technology now enables people to be connected and involved in decision making without physical presence. Executives are increasingly looking to diversify their interests and build portfolio approach to careers. Organisations are increasingly realising the value of non-Executive director’s input into strategic decision making.

Why employ an experienced corporate finance ‘deal guy’ on a full-time basis if deal management is not a full-time requirement? Today a ‘deal guy’ without full-time requirement may take responsibilities for other areas that are outside his speciality (e.g. marketing strategy, IT). In many cases this is an inefficient use of an expensive resource and not in the interest of the company or the Executive.
